Measure 692 was voted in by 59% of the voters and came into effect Nov. the 3rd, 1998. Measure 692 was later amended by S.B. 6032 which removes criminal penalties statewide on the cultivation, use, and possession statewide by a person whom has received a signed recommendation from a qualified physician affirming the fact that he/she suffers from some form of a debilitating illness or condition and that the “potential benefits of medical use of marijuana would likely outweigh the health risks.” Illnesses that qualify for a medicinal marijuana card in Washington State include: Chron’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Glaucoma, HIV/Aids, Cancer, chronic pain, other debilitating conditions, and as an alternative to other more addictive and harmful medical treatments. WASHINGTON’S MEDICINAL MARIJUANA LAWS DO NOT HAVE RECIPROCITY PROVISIONS SO YOUR MEDICAL CARD IN ANY OTHER STATE WILL NOT PROTECT YOU UNDER WASHINGTON’S MEDICAL MARIJUANA LAWS!!!

S.B. 6032 allows for qualified/current patients to possess a maximum amount of 24 ounces of dried usable cannabis. S.B. 6032 also allows for the cultivation of a maximum of 15 plants by said patient. Caregivers are allowed in Washington State. The applying primary caregiver must be at least 18 years old, may only be a primary caregiver for one patient, caregiver is prohibited from consuming medicinal cannabis.

To Acquire Your Medical License in Washington State:

Washington State has no registry or  I.D. program in place for medicinal cannabis patients. To get full legal protection under the Washington State Medical Marijuana Act, qualified patients are only required to receive a recommendation via a doctor licensed within Washington State. Similar to the way it is in California in this respect.
To go about this: You first and foremost are required to be a current resident of Washington State and possess current Washington state I.D. as a means to prove residency. Then you must acquire  a copy medical records that indicate you have been diagnosed with a qualifying. Next, remember that you need to have these records with you when you are evaluated at your medicinal cannabis appointment .Must have a formal statement signed by a Medical Doctor (MD), R.N., naturopathic doctor, Osteopathy physician , or osteopathic physician assistant that is currently qualified to practice medicine in Washington State.
